David Crowder will be the headline performer at Winter Jam 2020 Saturday at Schottenstein Center (Value City Arena).

David Crowder has played before at Winter Jam, the annual Christian music arena tour that will stop at Value City Arena on Saturday, but this year marks his first time at the top of the bill.

He’s enjoying headlining, but it has its drawbacks.

“By the time we’re on the stage, I’ve been eating too many nachos and too much cotton candy,” he said, speaking by phone from Wichita, KS, where he’d just disembarked from a tour bus traveling from Peoria, IL.

To be fair, he has a good, long wait before taking the stage at 10 p.m. By the time he starts playing “walkout music, sending everybody home,” the show has been going on for several hours.

“While people are showing up, there are three ‘lights-up bands’ playing. The ‘lights-down’ official show starts about 7 or so, and it’s action-packed from beginning to end.”

Crowder — who performs under his last name — thinks that Christian music has made significant strides in terms of production values during the last couple of decades.

“Early on, there just weren’t a lot of high-budget albums that were being made. So it was very difficult to compete,” he said. “Nowadays, artists like Billie Eilish are making albums in their bedrooms. So technology has leveled the playing field immensely.”
