The Sourceby Kari Jobe Carnes

God meets me in worship more than any other arena. But the foundation of that has to be the Word.

I think too often we look to “secondary sources” instead of going straight to the Source. We read books about God. We listen to sermons about God. We sing songs about God. We repost images and tweets and pins about God. We pray to God and about God. But the foundation of all that has to be God and His Word, not anything or anyone else.

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” –Matthew 4:4

The world can mislead us. Others can mislead us, whether that is their intention or not. Songs and sermons can even mislead us if we don’t know the context and foundation from which they spring. Which is why it is so important to go directly to the Source.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. –2 Timothy 3:16

God’s presence is my favorite place. It’s where I go to thank Him for the blessing that is my life. It’s where I go when I’m overwhelmed and in need of comfort. It’s where I go for inspiration and guidance and where I try to make sense of the world and what’s on my heart.

I want that for you, too. More than anything I want you to know that you have a Father who longs to know you, to spend time with you, to speak to you and heal you and guide you and surprise you. And He will if you draw near to Him.

As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. –Psalm 18:30
