Hollyn To Release New Project – ‘Bye, Sad Girl’

By May 3, 2019No Comments

One of our favorite female pop artists Hollyn threw a party a few weeks ago. Did you miss your invitation? Well, here’s the skinny: she is releasing a new project this fall called ‘bye, sad girl”!

She explained why this project is so important to her.
“I often reflect on the times I’ve been alone… processing alone… those moments where you’re trying to figure it all out. We have all been there, like our feelings are waves 20 feet tall, about to capsule us and never let go,” she said. “In those moments, all I wanted was a hug… for someone to look me in the eyes and let me know I was seen, I was loved, and I could make it through whatever was overwhelming me. If I wouldn’t have had people who volunteered to be there for me, acknowledge my feelings, and empower me, I don’t know where I’d be today.
“Recently, I thought to myself… what about the girl who has no one? What is she going to do when grief swallows her and abandonment stings her soul? What if she doesn’t know there’s a God who loves her, or even refuses to believe in that kind of thing? How do I give her a hug? How do I comfort her? Sit with her. Even though I’m thousands of miles away and we’ve never met?

“By sharing my story, my grief, my abandonment, my freedom, my thoughts, my emotions… that might just bring her that sense of comfort she’s been waiting for. Because, you see, we are not alive to fix people’s problems, but to empower and love alongside them in the way they should go.”

That’s what her “bye, sad girl” project is all about: empowering others to share their story.

On the night of her release party/announcement, she and some friends took black and white portraits, with a watermark, handwritten statement of “bye, _____.”

WANT TO JOIN THE POST? HERE’S HOW!1. Post your photo!
2. In the caption, you fill in the statement “bye, ____.” with whatever resonates with you. It could be anything from student loans to anxiety. It doesn’t have to be your current situation… it could be a story from the past you’d like to share, something you are about to do, or whatever is relevant in your life at the moment. Tell as much or as little of your story as you feel comfortable! This is your story, tell it how you want it. If you don’t have a personal story to share, just post the album cover!
3. At the bottom of the caption, don’t forget to use the hashtag:  #byesadgirl

“As you share your story, remember that there’s someone out there who is going through the same things you have walked through,” Hollyn said. “They will be inspired to keep going, open themselves to growth, and, ultimately, feel like someone understands them.”
