Andy Mineo is back on top with his sophomore effort, Uncomfortable. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and at No. 3 on the Rap Albums chart. This week, Mineo has surged to the lead on the CMTA & Nielson Christian SoundScan chart for Christian Rap/Hip Hop, according to the GMA’s GMAil newsletter.
According to Billboard, the 13-track collection, which features production by !llmind and others, moved 35,000 copies during its first week of release — the highest sales week of his career. Of that sum, 32,000 units were pure album sales. The LP, which follows 2013’s Heroes for Sale, also scored the No. 10 spot on the Billboard 200.
Uncomfortable boasts the previously-released title track and the second single, “Hear My Heart,” which is dedicated to his deaf sister, Grace.
The New York native took a different approach when it came to creating this project. “I’m going against the grain of what works,” he told The Boombox. “So like I know how to make turn up records, southern records, all the popular records that are out right now. But this is for the first time I think on an album I’m like no, I’m going to take my own artistic step in a different direction and say this is what I like and I’m not gonna just try to keep up with what’s happening. I’m gonna try to step out of the safe space to kinda curate my own sound. That’s what’s scary.”
Andy Mineo is continuing his U.S. tour in support of his new album. The trek kicked off Oct. 1 in St. Peters, Mo., and wraps up on Nov. 15 in Atlanta.
